Eligibility questions
Are we eligible? Many innovative companies qualify. If you are building something genuinely new with commercial potential, BidX identifies the strongest available route on the strategy call.
Can a pre-revenue company apply? Yes. Some programmes are designed for early-stage and pre-revenue companies. The key is matching the project to the right programme.
Do we need a CTO or patent? No. Neither is a universal requirement. You need a credible delivery plan and a fundable project.
We already have investors. Can we still apply? Yes. Grant funding can sit alongside equity investment.
Funding and money questions
Do we need matched funding? Not always. Some programmes fund 100%. Where a company contribution is required, BidX can also introduce match-funding providers.
Does our contribution need to be in the bank now? No, not in every programme. BidX checks the financial requirements for the recommended route and tells you what needs to be in place.
Can the grant pay salaries and product development? Yes, where eligible. Founder and employee time, technical hires and eligible development can form part of project costs.
What is grant funding generally not for? Usually not general working capital, routine advertising, customer-acquisition spend or work already completed. Funding is normally tied to eligible future project activity.
When do we receive the money? It depends on the programme. Some reimburse eligible costs; others pay in advance or in stages. BidX checks cash-flow timing before recommending the route.
Applying and outcomes
Who submits the application? BidX prepares the written application. You make the final factual checks and formally submit through the funder's system.
What if we don't win the first application? Grant funding is competitive, so no individual application is guaranteed. With a multi-application package, BidX uses relevant assessor feedback and learnings from the first application to strengthen the next suitable opportunity.
We've applied before. Does that help? Yes, bring it. Share the previous application, scores and assessor feedback. A failed application can show where points were lost so the next one can address them.
Where do applications usually lose points? Wrong competition, weak innovation positioning, routine product development presented as R&D, weak evidence or commercial case, and answers that don't address the question being scored.
Does timing matter? Yes. Funding windows matter. If a suitable route is open now, delaying can mean waiting for the next relevant competition.
